Progress

"Progress" Lyrics
Words & Music by Andrew Gosden
Wealthy men don't come 'round here anymore, in their BMWs
They took their golf clubs down the road away,
They found a place to start anew
And the neighbours complain the vacant lots are overgrown,
And a newly abandoned stepchild has been born
Now there are homeless folks out sleeping rough,
And calling it their own,
Now that all the money is gone.
Some say that's progress, but I don't know
They say that's progress, what do they know?
Some say that's progress, that's all they see
They say that's progress, but it's not to me, not to me
I'm sure they'll find a hungry, avaricious soul
To raise the funds and raze the trees and dig the holes
No doubt it'll bring the cash-flow back again
And the cars, the congestion, the pollution never ends
So be careful what you wish for, 'cause it may just come about I've seen it time and time again - it leaves me with no doubt
It's a world that's run by ruthless men, not sentimental fools
And they'll take their money back again if you try to bend the rules
Some say that's progress, but I don't know
They say that's progress, that's how it goes, how it goes
Well we moved toward the sea to be free
But all the views of waves and sand were mortgaged long ago
So we settled for suburban misery
Now we pay to park and watch the waves on public holidays
Some say that's progress, that's all they see
They say that's progress - it's not to me
Some say that's progress, but I don't know
They say that's progress, that's how it goes
Some say that's progress, that's all they see
Some say that's progress, but it's not to me, not to me

When I Die

When I Die” - Lyrics
Words and Music by Andrew Gosden
When I die I’m gonna give you everything you need
You won’t have to scrimp and save, you won’t have to bleed
Treat me nice, treat me good, treat me like a queen
Put me first, put me last, and everywhere in between
‘Cause when I die, so good for you
Yeah when I die, all your dreams’ll come true
When I retire I’m gonna give you every bit of my time
We’ll relax and see the world; Life will be sublime
Until then don’t distract me; I’ve got work to do
Bills to pay, kids to school, but there ain’t no time for you
’Til I retire, then all our dreams will come true
So we pay with the here and now
Spend it all for the there and then
Tastes so dull then the sweet turns sour
Leaves us wondering “where and when?”
When I die, when I die, ain’t nothin’ left but a memory
Good intentions and great ideas
Long lost friends and enemies
When I arrive, I will have travelled way to far to turn around
Pour the fuel, throw the match,
Run from ruin and burn the ground
When I arrive, will anyone be home?
When I die, will I be alone?
When I arrive, will anyone be home?
When I die, will anyone be home?
When I die, will I be…
Alone?

“Disconnected” Lyrics
Words & Music by Andrew Gosden
Well I woke up in the morning to the sound of my alarm
For all intents and purposes, well everything seemed calm
I sucked the morning air into my lungs to clear my head
One look into the mirror confirmed all my body said
Well I got my clothes together and put shoes upon my feet
I wiped my weary eyes and headed bravely for the street
The traffic went for miles and there was nowhere else to go
If it’s gonna be a bad one, does it have to go so slow?
Feelin’ disconnected
Feelin’ out of sorts
Have you ever had one of those days?
Got a feelin’ it’s one of those days.
‘Cause it’s dark and getting darker,
And I just can’t see the light
Now I’m drowning in the deep dark sea of all I have to do
And I hope in broken promises that are never coming true
Incessant waves of messages come crashing through the breach
The world is at my fingertips, but it’s way out of my reach
Feelin’ disconnected
Feelin’ out of sorts
Feelin’ disconnected
I just cannot seem to connect my actions with my thoughts.
I’m disconnected
I’m disconnected
I’m disconnected
I’m disconnected

Fade

"Fade" Lyrics
Words & Music by Andrew Gosden
Breakin' day, daybreak again
Makin' hay for hay makin' men
Killing time while time slowly kills you
Wait in line
When all you want to do is fade away
The TV's on, it's ad break again
Cold hard cash for cold-hearted men
Fill in time for mortgaged lonely souls
Wait in line
When all you want to do is fade away
And the night slowly dissolves
Into one long myopic stare
Into the inside of your skull
And it's all that you can bear
'til the daylight crashes through
In a blinding revelation
It's total desolation
Such a seductive invitation
To turn yourself around and fade away

Lie Phone

“Lie Phone” Lyrics
Words & Music by Andrew Gosden
Did you ever get the feeling,
Life had passed you by
And it dissipated right before your eyes?
All those wasted moments
All those sleepless nights
Sucked into the vacuum of a never fading light
And you’ve got to know
Is it ever really gonna change?
Started out so slow
Now it’s running right beyond my range.
‘Cause I have this empty feeling
And it’s coming back again
‘Cause I’m doing all these things for you
But you never were my friend
Takin’ up my time, takin’ up my life
And it’s never better for me anymore
It only leads me to trouble and strife
You lied to me, you made me believe
All your promises
You sold me a dream
With your silken screen
It’s a lie, it’s a lie
I have this sinking feeling
Things ain’t what they seem
Everyone looks better than me
Everybody’s is living the dream
There’s winners to the left of me
And winners to the right
So make your camera angle cool
And keep your failings out of sight
You lied to me, you made me believe
All your promises
You sold me a dream
With your silken screen
It’s a lie, it’s a lie
It’s so easy to think you’re different
No you’ll never succumb
You’re gonna control it, you’re gonna resist it
But you’re not the only one
And I just don’t know
Is it ever really gonna change?
Can we turn back time?
Now it’s racing far beyond me
Now it’s got it’s claws into me
Now it’s up to me
‘Cause you lied to me, you made me believe
All your promises
‘Cause you sold me a dream
With your silken screen
It’s a lie, it’s a lie
Yeah you lied to me, you made me believe
All your promises
‘Cause you sold me a dream
With your silken screen
It’s a lie, it’s a lie

Anything Less (Than the Best)
Words & Music by Andrew Gosden
They never had a dollar to their name
But somehow they seemed to manage all the same
And Sunday’s Best were always hand-me-downs
While fists were clenched so tight all over town
He’d had enough of it, He couldn’t take no more
Their judgin’ eyes on him, forever feeling poor
Then he vowed an oath: “No, this ain’t who I am,
When I get out of here, I’ll leave a wealthy man…
Gonna give my children, all I dreamed of,
So they’ll never have to feel this way”
“From now on I’m never buyin’
Anything less than the best
Gonna walk right by, I ain’t tryin’
Anything less than the best
There ain’t no point in denying me
Anything less than the best
I ain’t gonna live my life with
Anything less than the best”
You know he gave them all that he could give
He had to work so hard, there was just no time that he could find to live
He built a palace worthy of a crown
And you know when you aim this high, there’s just no lookin’ down
Now their expectations, their demands are endless
It was never meant to feel this way
Now how you gonna arrive in
Anything less than the best?
How are you gonna get by with
Anything less than the best?
Why should you even try with
Anything less than the best?
How you gonna live your life with
Anything less than the best?
I felt just like a Philistine, intruding on your fields of green
I was ushered through your hallowed halls
But I never felt at home at all
‘Cause this is all a fantasy
Inflating your future, slowly…dissolving your modesty
Building you up, just to let you down…
And there’s always more, to aspire to
But people aren’t possessions
And you’re still just… yeah you’re still just…
You
Now how you gonna arrive in
Anything less than the best?
How are you gonna get by with
Anything less than the best?
Why should you even try with
Anything less than the best?
How you gonna live your life with
Anything less than the best?
Now how you gonna arrive in
Anything less than the best?
How are you gonna get by with
Anything less than the best?
Why should you even try with
Anything less than the best?
How you gonna live your life with
Anything less than the best?
Anything less than the best?
Anything less than the best?

Behind the Glass

"Behind the Glass" Lyrics
Words and Music by Andrew Gosden
Everybody....seems to be... living in a frame...
Everybody seems to be living in a frame,
Staring out across the view
Searching for a match to light the flame,
Looking for somebody new.
Why we gotta live behind the glass?
Why we gotta see it second hand?
Don't you think it's all a crazy farce?
Don't you know the future's in your hands? Your hands...
It all started out so long ago
Sending pictures through the air
All those years ago how were we to know
The peace of mind we had was rare?
Now we gotta live behind the glass
Now we always see it second hand
I guess we know it's all a crazy farce
But we feel it's all out of our hands, yeah our hands
This is never how we wanted it to be
It's a lonely life to lead
If only I could take control and never let it go
Could I make it work for me?
I don't wanna live behind the glass
I don't wanna see it second hand
I don't wanna share this crazy farce
And I know it's all within my hands, my hands.

Too Much

“Too Much”
Words & Music by Andrew Gosden
She’s got a mask painted deftly,
Like curtains across her face.
Sunnys hiding beautiful black eyes,
And ev’rything’s right in its place.
He says: “You just can’t walk out and leave me,
You’ve gotta pay your debt,
You made your bed, now you lie in it,
And don’t you ever forget…
That I can settle this with a blind word,
And you know you’ll hang onto a touch.
You’ll never break free, ‘cause you know deep inside,
Girl, you love me too much.”
She met him last year at the Local,
Lookin’ so lonely and lost.
Lookin’ like life had short-changed him,
And only she could make up the cost.
She said: “I only want to be near you,
For every hour of the day.”
He looked right through her and he melted her heart,
But there was nothin’ to say.
Now it didn’t take long ’til he hit her,
While he was leaning on his liquid crutch.
She said: “I’ve got to forgive you, and it’s prob’ly my fault,
And boy, I love you too much.”
Solo
She’s going her way down the road now,
Into the great beyond.
Who knows what she will find there?
Who knows where she belongs?
She says she’s gonna kick over the traces,
This time she’s gonna be strong.
But she’s lookin' in all the wrong faces,
And she is just too far gone.
It never takes long ‘till they leave her,
Stinging from the loneliest touch.
Will she ever break free or just surrender again?
You know it happens too much.

"Special" Lyrics
Words and Music by Andrew Gosden
All your life you’ve been floating around
Never once did your feet hit the ground
Took your cues from the loftiest types
Cried your blues when it didn’t turn out right
Tell me do you think you’re special?
Do you need to be the only one?
Tell me do you think you’re special?
Are you gonna be a favourite son?
Got to make your move, you got to make your mark,
Got something to prove, but you’re only stumbling in the dark
All those people give you all their money
You know you’re gonna have to take it,
‘cause you’re so special honey
Tell me do you think you’re special?
Are you need to be the only one?
Tell me do you think you’re special?
Do you need to be a favourite son?
You painted yourself into a corner
Good and proper this time my son
Now we gotta pay all the clever people
To right all the wrongs you’ve done
It’s a tangled web you weave
It’s a sorry mess you leave
Now you know you’re really special
Yeah, you’re the only one
They want you ‘cause they know you’re special
Now they’re finding everything you’ve done
Now you know you’re really special
‘Cause you’re the only one
They want you ‘cause they know you’re special
Now they’ve got you on the run
You’re special
You’re special
You’re special

Uber Blues

“Uber Blues” Lyrics
Words and Music by Andrew Gosden
Well we touched down to a wall of uniforms
And their mouths they seemed so cruel
Now I’m a million miles from the place that I was born
And I’m feeling like a fool
Got to get it together
Make some cash to feed the kids
Find something no body else wants to do
I’m not too proud to forget
All I learned and all I did
Just so I can see it through
‘Cause I see crazy things all around me every night
From the sun’s dying rays
To the cold cold fingers of the morning light
It never ceases to amaze
Just how many times I have to
Avert my unbelieving gaze
Well it may seem to you that I’m a cliche in a car
So you sit in silence while I drive
You never give a thought to why I came so far
Or how I could be happy just to be alive
‘Cause I saw crazy things all around me every day
It was all I could do
Just to pack my bags and get away
It never ceases to amaze
Just how many times my story
Draws an unbelieving gaze
And the night seems to make everyone feel free
To ignore all the things
That make the day so safe to you and me
Look me in the face and see the light behind my eyes
You think you feel unsafe
And that’s a reason to despise me
That’s your choice, it isn’t mine.
No I ain’t part of all this seedy nether life
But I’ve got eyes and I can see
I just wanna feed my children and my wife
So won’t you please just let me be
‘Cause I saw crazy things all around me every day
It was all I could do
Just to pack my bags and get away
It never ceases to amaze
Just how many times my story
Draws an unbelieving gaze
Now I see crazy things all around me every night
From the sun’s dying rays
To the cold cold fingers of the morning light
It never ceases to amaze
Just how many times I have to
Avert my unbelieving gaze

FytaKyte Brisbane, Australia
As a kid, my imagination ruled as King until "Life Got in the Way"...
Then, during the
rain and storms of the day-to-day grind, the seeds of expression gradually germinated into feelings that seemed universal; relatable. I found myself searching for an oblique angle, a different perspective and trying to find the chord that inspired three different feelings at once, with the words to match.
